Nice to meet you, friend! My name is Maxime Baron, and I’m a passionate luthier based in Montreal. From crafting unique, handcrafted guitars to guiding others in the art of lutherie, my journey has been all about creativity and craftsmanship. I hope that as you explore my work, you’ll be inspired to connect with me, and together, we can create something truly exceptional.

My story with wood started when I was 14, spending time in my grandfather’s workshop. He was a cabinetmaker, and from him I learned more than just techniques. I learned what it meant to work hard and to help others. I learned respect for the material, for its patience, and for the way every piece carries its own history.
That first spark led me into formal training in classical lutherie, and later to refine my craft through apprenticeships with master luthiers. I quickly discovered a natural inclination for precision, patience, and an almost obsessive attention to detail.
One of the most transformative chapters of my journey was studying the methods of Ervin Somogyi, widely regarded as one of the greatest contemporary luthiers. This rare and demanding education reshaped the way I approach guitar-making, equipping me to sidestep many of the pitfalls that often limit even seasoned builders.
But I didn’t stop there. I dove deep into the physics of sound, studying how resonance truly works in wood. Using rigorous testing methods, I developed ways to consistently bring out the maximum potential of each soundboard — ensuring that every guitar not only sings beautifully, but does so with reliability and balance across time.
Parallel to this, I studied applied psychology and worked as a coach. This may sound like a different world, but to me it’s all part of the same mission: helping people grow. I’m not into trends that lead nowhere. I work with robust, scientific methods that genuinely help musicians step into a higher version of themselves. When I build an instrument, it’s not just about the wood and the sound; it’s about creating a tool for transformation, designed for those ready to take on a new challenge.
So my work blends forward-thinking lutherie with human expansion. The guitars I make are living, breathing instruments — finely tuned machines built with care — and they’re also invitations. Invitations to play deeper, to grow as a musician, and to discover what you’re truly capable of.
If you’re here, maybe you’re not just looking for another guitar. Maybe you’re looking for the next step in your journey.
This is where the soul of every Baronguitars is brought to life. My workshop is not just a space; it’s a sanctuary where wood and craftsmanship converge, and creative ideas come to fruition. As a luthier, I view each instrument as a unique expression, a story waiting to be told.
